Earth Crust Quake

南風颯颯, 北風霏霏, 朝晴晝雨, 寒暑無時, 螟蟲繁盛,侵蝕⻘苗,農家由於,鎖額悉眉。恰值於昭和十年三月十九日即國曆四月二十一日,星期日,家家慶祝太陽星壽誕兼逢各處恭迎媽祖,鬧熱異常,農⺠藉此消遣開懷, 家家休業,老幼皆歡,探親訪友,共賞佳景,因此各家人士,比較往日,有些放蕩,過晝觀之,⻄山殘月將沈,色黃而異缺,東方旭日初昇,斗六而色紅,觀其奇異怪像,無不立聳皮毛。時交上午六點二分,正在猜疑之間,忽然塵煙由⻄南蜂擁而至,繼聞轟然之聲,天搖地轉,行者立伏立著隨倒,轉瞬間山崩地裂,崩山之聲天天相應,倒屋之響地地相銜,塵埃彌漫,咫尺不見,地皮⻱裂,陷落隆起,池水減去其半,平地變成高低,人不及避,鳥不待飛,家屋倒如廢墟,人畜壓如生葬。當其時全村人早有出外無罹災者,不過二三十人,其餘一千二百多人,盡皆壓於土磚之內。初回激震由分鐘之久,絕無人聲,人人自覺如幻若夢,呆呆不解,及聞啼哭之聲,呼救之急,始覺醒然世紀罹災之事。」                                                                                                                 --苗栗公館鄉鄉誌










This project is a search of the voice of The Anthem Boy, a propaganda story of Japanese colonial re-education in Taiwan in the 1930's. During a major earthquake, a young boy had alleged insisted on singing the Japanese national anthem while enduring a major head injury. This project is a speculation of what was actually heard during that mythical moment in time.
